This will be the 4th Instructional Course on Basic Principles of Osteotomies around the knee and Primary TKA in Iraq. For the first time this course combination will be held in Basra, to bring the high-quality “Stolzalpen teaching concept” to the south of Iraq. That will take place in Grand Millennium Al Seef, Basra, Iraq.
The osteotomy course will focus the first day on the “Basic Principles” of how to improve your osteotomy outcome. With a new understanding of biomechanics, good patient selection and proper surgical technique modern osteotomy concepts offer excellent results for young and active patients with osteoarthritis. Knee surgeons should be aware of these advanced techniques to be able to offer their patients osteotomy as an attractive alternative to Unicondylar knee or TKA.
At the end of day 1 the hands-on workshop will allow delegates to explore the most recent advancement in osteotomy techniques on the tibia and femur including tips and tricks with angle stable implants.
The second half-day starts with a didactical live video recording on medial open wedge tibia osteotomy repeating the Basic Principles and showing how they can be transferred to the OR. During the second part, we will present and discuss the basic principles for complex osteotomies. This will include double-level, combined cartilage and ligament as well as derotation osteotomies.
